What is “celebrity branding”? Celebrity branding has evolved over the years. At first it was paid celebrities holding the product next to their face proclaiming how much they love the product. It has transformed into a more genuine way via social media.

Celebrity endorsements and celebrity branding are two different things. A celebrity endorsement is an endorsement through some type of advertising where the celebrity is paid to say nice things about the product. Celebrity branding is more about using a celebrity’s position of prominence to start a conversation. This is used to get more people talking about the product and genuinely interested in what it offers. Celebrity endorsements are the 20th century while celebrity branding is the 21st.
Big businesses and small businesses have different challenges. For big businesses they are more established and have something people either love or celebrities already recognize. Their challenge is to keep the brand interesting and fresh. Small brands have challenges establishing themselves enough for celebrities to recognize them. If they have the chance of getting their product into the hands of a celebrity they have a greater possibility of becoming successful.
