Lying Brian

Why is telling the truth so damn difficult for some? Some have claimed that telling the truth is akin to pulling teeth. There is no beating around the bush; the teeth will eventually have to come out, and so will the truth. Honesty is defined as the quality of being fair and truthful. Honesty is a buzzword of the month, as well as, love, but it is one word that is not showing true with Mr. Brian Williams.

The revered American journalist, above, once commanded the television screens across the nation while reporting the NBC Nightly News. Williams covered stories, such as Hurricane Katrina and the Iraq War. The latter has now been quite the controversy in the past few weeks and has led to William’s newest nickname: “Lying Brian” as well as a trending hashtag (#Misremembered) and series of memes:

As of February 10th, NBC News President Deborah Turness announced that Brian Williams has been suspended six months without pay following false claims about an experience he had during the Iraq War. With this recent unfolding, questions are being raised on what else was Brian lying about in his field experiences?

But are these the questions that need to be asked? Host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart says, “Finally someone is being held to account for misleading America about the Iraq War.” Stewart also took jabs at Williams' competitors in the media for their round-the-clock coverage of the scandal, instead of reflecting back on how the media was manipulated in the past decade that led to a “catastrophic foreign policy decision."

What should we expect and take away moving forward from this controversial situation? Always tell the truth. Always. Individuals should tell the truth because it is morally right and life is short, you never know what life is going to throw at you. Live life to the fullest and tell people how you feel about them before it is too late, tell stories about your life (but make sure that they are accurate). It should be interesting too if there are any changes to the way anchors report news stories, but only time will tell.
